The School of Educational Studies USM aims to develop and disperse knowledge through innovative teaching and research to nurture exceptional professional educationists through international quality programs.

The School of Educational Studies (SES) offers seven undergraduate degree programmes:

  • Bachelor of Education with Honours [B.Ed. (Hon)
  • Bachelor of Arts (Education) with Honours [B. A. (Ed.) (Hons.)
  • Bachelor of Science (Education) with Honours [B. Sc. (Ed.) Hons.)
  • Bachelor of Education (Preschool) with Honours
  • Bachelor of Education (Special Education) with Honours
  • Bachelor of Education (TESOL)
  • Bachelor of Education (Multimedia Interactive)

To upgrade the professional development of educators, The School of Educational Studies also offers various postgraduates programme to practitioners in the field of education.  Postgraduate students can register under two types of programmes:

Research Mode (Master of Arts (Education) and PhD)
Coursework Mode (M. Ed and Ed.D)

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D)
This programme is offered as a full-time or part-time programme 
for students interested in research in a particular area related to education.

Master of Art (Education)

Coursework Mode (M. Ed and Ed.D)

Master of Education (M. Ed)

Students of this programme can opt to study as part-time students or as full-time students. Students may choose to do research or course work.  
The programme of study by course work is divided into two parts

  • course section
  • research section or practicum.

Students who chose a programme of study by course work may specialize in one of the following fields:

  • Curriculum Studies
  • Educational Psychology
  • Educational Management and Administration
  • Educational Technology and Multimedia
  • English Language Education/TESOL
  • Guidance and Counseling
  • Psychometrics and Educational Measurement
  • Science/Mathematics Education

Doctor of Education (Ed. D)

The Doctor of Education (Ed.D) Degree by Coursework offered provides a general professional training programme in several selected fields of education. Apart from exposure to some fundamental courses on educational research skills and methodologies, students will also select courses from a field of specialization in education for in-depth study, including courses requiring internship in relevant educational institutions or research centers and/or independent study.  Students will also be required to conduct research on a specialized topic as part of their study.
